Sober curious means questioning your drinking without committing to quitting: drinking less, skipping it some nights, and noticing how you feel. The easiest way to do it is to have something good to drink instead. Here's what sober-curious people actually reach for.
What "sober curious" means
The phrase took off with Ruby Warrington's 2018 book Sober Curious. It isn't about labels or recovery. It's about choosing when to drink instead of drinking by default, and it's a big part of why alcohol-free drinks have exploded.
Sober curious drinks you can feel
- Kava. For unwinding. What is kava?
- Kratom elixirs. Red for evenings, green for social, white for daytime. The colors explained.
- Kanna. For social nights. Kanna vs. kava.
Sober curious drinks that taste the part
- Non-alcoholic beer, wine and spirits.
- Mocktails and sparkling tea.
- Soda water with bitters and citrus.
Where to start
Pick one or two nights a week and replace the drink, not just remove it. The drink finder suggests one in five questions.
